goodbye summer, hello school!
It's hard to believe that summer vacation is over now ~ wow, that went by fast! And things have been crazy since we returned from the Boundary Waters! Emm joined her high school's swim team on the 17th, so she's been going to practice every day since then, except Sundays... and I feel like I've been spending all my time driving her back and forth!
Benjamin's been having fun with the headlamp Dad gave to Nick ~ he puts it on, then goes "cave exploring"... in the closets, LOL:
On the evening of Aug. 18th, I took Emmalie to her new school for Freshman Orientation. Here she is, showing off her lovely locker ~ the bottom part is only about 4 inches wide! She has to carry her backpack around with her all day because most of her stuff won't even fit in the locker!
We had to buy new school supplies, of course. Here's Emm with hers:
And Nick with his. You can just see the back-to-school excitement on his face! (Okay, so maybe that's not what it is.)
School started on Wednesday, Aug. 25th. Emm had to get up at 5:30am so that she could be out the door and waiting at the bus stop by 6:50. (I had to get up early, too, so I could take these photos!) Here is our (*gasp*) high schooler:
Emm at the bus stop:
She has a very full schedule, what with an hour and a half of Japanese, then all of her honors classes (algebra 3-4, global studies, English, and biology), keyboarding, and PE, and then 2+ hours of swim practice!
Nick got to sleep in 2 hours later than Emm, but still had to wake up about an hour earlier than he'd been getting up all summer, so he wasn't very happy about that. (Especially since it meant going to school!) Around 8am, Ben, Nick's friend Jordan, and I headed out the door with Nick and walked him over to school. Here is our new 6th grader:

Both kids survived their first week back. :)
On Saturday, the 28th, Emm, Nick, and I drove into the city for the American Idol Live! concert. Here are the kids outside the United Center:

We had a good time, and enjoyed all 10 singers, but Crystal Bowersox and Lee DeWyze stole the show! :) Here's a shot of Crystal:

And one of all 10:
It was a fun night! :)

Your Emm's lockers are exactly like my Emily's middle school lockers. They're skinny and it's a challenge in the winter when they have to stuff a winter jacket in there too. My Em doesn't use a backpack. She uses a tote similar in size to the green one your Emm is carrying in her first day of school pic. She carries what doesn't fit in the tote (a thick binder she needs for all her classes and her lunch bag).
That's what the lockers were like at my school in Canada. In the UK you don't get lockers, you cart everything with you, and hang your coat and PE kit up in the cloakroom.
BTW, is it just me or was Em trying to strangle Nick outside the concert? :oD
Katy, it's not just you. LOL! (You should've seen the other pic I got!)
I'd never seen lockers so small before! Her middle school locker was at least twice as wide. Right now Emm has to take her backpack AND the tote bag to school every day ~ she's got all her swim stuff in the bag!
