snowpocalypse

Or "Sno. M. G.", as one of my friends called it. :) Yes, the weather forecasters were actually right this time, and we got hit with quite the blizzard! Thankfully, we all stayed safe, and our power stayed on, so it was actually kind of fun!

On Tuesday, Feb 1st, in anticipation of the storm, Benjamin decided to build himself a bunker, LOL. (Okay, a blanket fort.) I helped him drape blankets over our couches and coffee table, making a neat little L-shaped tunnel for him to play in:

This photo was taken around 3pm, when the snow and the wind were just starting to pick up. We put our Christmas tree out in the backyard in January, leaned up against the arch, to give the birds a little shelter when they come to the feeders and the birdbath:
We were amused to see that the birds were not only coming to the heated birdbath to drink, but also to use it as a hot tub, LOL! Over a dozen birds took turns getting into it and just sitting there for awhile, warming up, then splashing around a bit and getting back out:
Tuesday night we had winds around 50mph for several hours, about 20 inches of snowfall, thunder and lightning! It was quite impressive! This is how our backyard looked when we woke up on the 2nd. The Christmas tree had blown over around 11pm the night before:
Our front door, which we couldn't even open far enough to get out:

Nick and Ben went out to play on the big hill of snow created by the snow plow:

I was walking around, taking pictures, and suddenly sunk down in the snow, all the way up to my hip! I could NOT get out! Nick had to come help dig me out! It took over ten minutes before I was finally free, LOL:
Emm by the front walk. We had all kinds of crazy drifts in our yard!
George by the garage and driveway... he hardly had to do any shoveling! He was working in the morning (from home, obviously), so I started on the shoveling. It took me 2-1/2 hours just to make a path about 2 feet wide down our driveway. I was getting ready to go in and rest (and tell George and the kids that it was their turn to shovel) when one of our neighbors came over with his mini plow, and cleared most of the rest of it for us! George only had to shovel the part right by the garage door:
Later in the day, we took the boys sledding at the park. (Emm wasn't interested.) It was Ben's first time sledding on a real hill (not a snow plow "hill"), and he was a bit scared. He didn't have to worry, though... because the snow was not packed down when we got there, the sleds went really slow the first several times... and still hadn't reached the speed Nick was hoping for by the time we left. They still had a good time, though!

Ben liked this part the best, LOL:
